Find out more about our digital installation Universe of Sound, based on Holst's The Planets and featuring the Philharmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
UNIVERSE OF SOUND is an immersive digital installation devised and created by the Philharmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Using HD video projections and high-quality audio, Universe of Sound immerses its visitors in the world of Holst's The Planets, as seen from the point of view of the orchestra's musicians.
Footage for the installation was filmed by the Philharmonia's digital department on 37 cameras, in what is believed to be the largest classical music film shoot ever undertaken. Now production-managed by Rite Digital, this innovation installation offers limitless possibilities for transforming any space - be it a warehouse, sports hall or disused bank building - into a 132 piece virtual orchestra.
